Chances are you haven’t heard of Talay Riley. I hadn’t either, until about an hour ago when I received an email from his promoter introducing me to the artist I have now become a crazed follower of.
These are the basic facts you should know about Talay Riley:
1. He is 19 years old.
2. He co-wrote the #1 hit ‘Oopsy Daisy’ with Chipmunk, which is pretty good for a 19 year old I’d say.
3. He also worked with Chipmunk on top-10 hit ‘Look For Me’ and also featured on the track
4. He has now signed with Jive Records (Britney, Usher, Chris Brown) and is releasing a debut album
5. For this album, he has been in the studio with some of the BEST producers out there at the moment; Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic), Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins, Claude Kelly and Savan Kotecha. Trust me, these guys have a LOT of great pop songs to their names.
As well as all this he is also currently working on projects with Tinchy Stryder, JLS, Chipmunk, Justin Beiber, EJ, Jamie Foxx, Tiny Tempah and Lemar. AND HE IS 19, REMEMBER.
Normally I find promoter descriptions of new artists and new songs really rather patronisingly pretentious, so when told his sound was “really futuristic sounding urban pop” I was like yeahhhhhhhh whatever; but the truth is that is exactly what it is. My favourite song I’ve heard so far is ‘Heartbreaker’ and you can listen to the demo in full for free right here. It’s kind of like Taio Cruz but 10 times better and is slightly reminiscent of the fantastic ‘Silly Boy‘ by Eva Simons. Bear in mind too that that is just a demo, so the finished edit is already guaranteed to be utterly fantastic.
His first single however, is entitled ‘Humanoid’ and is pencilled in for an October release, impacting radios in the coming weeks apparently. Talay is currently in rehearsal phase for the music video which should be out very soon; you can listen to a short preview of it on his MySpace page. I’ll be honest, I do prefer ‘Heartbreaker’, but then again I preferred ‘Poker Face’ to ‘Just Dance’ and I loved both excessively unhealthy amounts. ‘Sergeat Smash’ is pretty epic too; quite similar vocally to Usher, but a much poppier (better) production.
Let us know what you think of Talay Riley (become a fan on Facebook here), I certainly think we’re going to be hearing a LOT more of him in the near future. Stay tuned to PopSeeker on Facebook and Twitter to get the latest Talay news when we get it!
