Dizzee Rascal isn’t going to find it very easy to defend himself against claims he’s sold out to the mainstream market. Personally, I have no problem with that; ‘Bonkers’, ‘Holiday’ and ‘Dance Wiv Me’ are three of the best club tracks from the past few years.
His new track, ‘Dizzee Disco’, takes his entry into the pop market to a whole new level. As the name suggests, it is pretty much Mr Rascal rapping over disco music. Yet weirdly, it’s bloody fantastic. It features former Popstars and X-Factor reject Daniel Pearce (nope, I’ve never heard of him either), and is sure to be a massive summer anthem.
If you think ‘Bonkers’ was, well, bonkers, then prepare yourself for Dizzee shouting ‘DISCO, DISCO, DISCO! LET’S GO, LET’S GO, LET’S GO!’ over 80s disco music.
It’s out May 24th and will be featured on (another) re-release of his platinum selling album ‘Tongue n’ Cheek’.
